The aims of the Friends of Mottey Meadows are to support the staff employed by Natural England in promoting and developing Mottey Meadows National Nature Reserve.
Since 2009 the Friends of Mottey Meadows have been involved in a huge variety of fundraising events, practical volunteer days and public events on the Meadows themselves.
Every year on the 3rd weekend of June, Natural England and the Friends of Mottey Meadows in partnership run our Annual Hay Making Festival. This public open day is free to all and involves wildflower walks, tractor rides, kids activities, wildlife displays, arts and crafts, hot food and much more. Members of the friends group support this event in a variety of a ways including selling refreshments, manning stands, organising stall holders, photography to name a few.
The Friends of Mottey Meadows have raised over £5000 from 2009 to 2014 by hosting fundraising events including quizzes, race nights, treasure hunts, antiques road shows, and applying for small grants.
These funds are spent on helping Natural England manage Mottey Meadows and to date the Friends have provided notice boards, signage, banners, gates and bridges and are still raising funds to pay for new hedges, fencing and machinery.
